my approach

As a Black queer social worker of Afro-Caribbean descent, I work using a strengths-based, and trauma-informed lens, with a deep commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice. Much of my experience has been working with BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ folks, particularly navigating racial, institutional and relational trauma. But I have also worked with many other communities. I believe that everyone has the ability to heal themselves, and I am passionate about supporting that journey.

As an educator, It is an honour for me to support other professionals in their journeys to create a practice that reflects who they are and the people they want to help. I enjoy providing opportunities to engage in processes of learning and unlearning that contribute to the wellbeing of ourselves and those we support in our work.

And, because healing often happens within community and with community, I deeply believe in creating affirming spaces for healing, connection and resistance.

my professional development

I believe in lifelong learning, and am constantly working towards building my knowledge through learning both inside and outside of academia.

I have received training on trauma-informed therapy, somatic therapy, emotionally-focused therapy and motivational interviewing, amongst others. I have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training, to further explore the mind-body connection when navigating trauma. Additionally, I have completed extensive research on racial trauma, the impacts of systemic violence and how to address these topics with an intersectional lens. I love to learn, and I am constantly building my knowledge through trainings and research, and I am excited to share my learnings with those I support.
